BUY ME A PINT

An evening out at the National Space Centre in Leicester for “Space Crafted”, advertised as an evening celebrating the very best in craft spirits and beers in an out of this world venue. A host of breweries and distilleries from the local area and further afield attended, and my write up below details the breweries that attended.

Zero Six Brewing

The first stand I headed over to was that of “Zero Six Brewing”. This small Nano Brewery was started up in 2021 in nearby Lutterworth by Matt and Steven. Matt was here this evening and it was great chatting about the styles of beer that they brew and how through tasting panels they choose what the next beer will be (by doing small batches of different beers). I tried 3 of their beers starting with “I-Chai-I”, a refreshing green tea, lychee and watermelon pale ale. “Vlaams Bier” is a Belgian red ale with sour cherry and Citra hops. Lastly “Fructus”, a retro sweet pale ale.

Golden Duck Brewery

Next was “Golden Duck Brewery”, which was started in early 2012 with their first brew in June of the same year. The brewery is based locally in Appleby Magna. Great chatting to Harry and Andy here today. Most of their beers feature a Cricket theme as they are both involved in a local cricket club, the name also being a nod back to this – “A batsman being dismissed off their first delivery faced is known as a golden duck”. Managed to have a pint of “Lunny’s No 8” from them, a refreshing and light blonde ale. I also managed to have a taste of their “Dark Duck”, a dark ale full of flavour.

Mill Hill Brew Co

Next was onto “Mill Hill Brew Co”, another local brewery based in Enderby and was started in 2022. I visited their Micropub/Taproom “Mill Hill Cask & Coffee” earlier today. Great chatting to Harry here about their beers and love the designs of the cans/pump clips, and it is great most of the beers are linked back to Leicester or local sayings. Started with “Eh Up Me Duck”, a delicious hazy pale brewer with 4 different New Zealand hope. Also tried “Meet Ya at the Clock Tower”, another great refreshing and tasty hazy pale ale brewed using 3 hops.

Liquid Light Brew Co

Onto Nottingham baed “Liquid Light Brew Co” next, which was founded in 2017. The name comes from the art-form of Liquid Light projection which started in the 1960s. I visited their brewery and taproom last October. Was great to catch up and have a chat with owner Tom today. Tried one of the 2 beers that they had available today, “Day Tripper”, a lovely juicy and refreshing pale ale.

Neon Raptor Brewing Co

Onto another Nottingham based brewery, “Neon Raptor Brewing Co”. The brewery started out in April 2016 cuckoo brewing at a couple of locations before moving to Sneiton Market in 2017 with the first beers being available from March 2018. Their taproom (visited in October), opened in the Summer of 2018. Was great to meet and chat to sales manager James here, and also Luke. Went with their “Solar Mist”, an awesome hazy pale ale with lots of great flavours coming through.

Tynt Meadow / Mount Saint Bernard Abbey

Last visit of the evening was to “Tynt Meadow”. MountSaint Bernard Abbey is the world’s 12th trappist brewery and the only one in the UK based in nearby Coalville, with all proceeds go to Mount Saint Bernard Abbey and towards charitable works. The beer making is now the primary work of the monks, from brewing to bottling. Was nice chatting to Pete, the Brewery Manager and great to be able to try both the original 7.5%, as well as the newer 5% blonde version. Both really great beers!
