The Chapel

The Chapel on Albion Street occupies part of the old St Mary’s Chapel site, with surviving fabric linked to one of the oldest buildings still standing in Broadstairs. The building has served several uses over the centuries, later becoming a second-hand bookshop before reopening as a bar and bookshop in August 2012.
Inside, shelves of books cover much of the walls from floor to ceiling, with wooden tables tucked into the front room and more seating continuing through the taller central space. Exposed beams, hanging lights, old furniture and the book-lined walls give it a warm, unusual look that still reflects the building’s chapel and bookshop history.
Beer: 3 changing cask ales alongside real cider and keg options.
Opening: Mon–Wed 16:00–01:00; Thu 16:00–02:00; Fri–Sat 12:00–02:00; Sun 12:00–01:00. CAMRA notes that it can close earlier depending on trade, but not before 22:00.

Getting to The Chapel
Bus: Alight from the Thanet Loop at Baptist Street. The Chapel is a short walk along Albion Street, close to The Magnet.
