The Rifle Volunteers is an independent Goacher’s tied house in a Victorian stone-built building. It is one of Maidstone’s more traditional real ale pubs and has kept much of its historic character rather than being heavily modernised.
Inside is a small single-room pub with a wonderfully old-fashioned feel. The panelled bar counter and back fittings are a strong feature, with traditional furniture and a compact layout that feels little changed compared with many modernised town pubs.
Beer: 4 regular cask ales and 1 changing cask ale currently listed.
Opening: Mon 18:00–23:00; Tue–Sat 12:00–23:00; Sun 12:00–18:00.

The pub is on Wyatt Street, just north of Maidstone town centre. Maidstone East station is within easy walking distance.
