BUY ME A PINT

Started off the day getting the train down to Wellingborough. Originally named “Wendelingburgh” which was the stronghold of Wendel’s People. This weekend coming is the “Waendel Walk”. Started off here visiting “The Litrle Ale House”, and heading back to the Railway Station to visit “The Little R’Ale House”. Headed next to Market Harborough to visit “Beerhouse”.

The Little Ale House

Headed down to Wellingborough by train from Leicester, and a 20 minute walk from the station into town brings me to my first call of the day which is into “The Little Ale House”. This was the second Micropub in the county. A great one roomed Micropub, now run by Chrissy having had a couple of owners in the past. Really great warm welcome in here today, whilst they were preparing for a long weekend beer festival for the “Waendel Walk”, having 56 barrels to go through. The outside beer garden is near completion (being ready for the festival tomorrow).

A great line up of 3 cask ales on the bar today, alongside a number of ciders to choose from. I went with “Old Red Mild” from Nuttycombe Brewery based in Taunton. A great mild ale, very easy drinking and packed full of flavour.

The Little R’Ale House

A 20 minute walk back to Wellingborough Station brings me to “The Little R’Ale House”. Located at the front of the Railway Station, which was Wellingborough’s second Micropub. This is located in former Ammo Room located at north end of platform one. A cosy one roomed pub, and a great warm welcome from Mary, and hosting what looks like the largest selection of ciders I have ever seen. A huge outdoor beer garden which is done out beautifully and great when its sunny.

A choice of 5 cask ales, served direct from casks behind the bar. Started with “Barnwell Bitter” from Barnwell based Digfield Ales. A delicious and tasty traditional English Bitter. I went onto “Simple Pleasures” from Oundle based Nene Valley Brewery. A light and citrusy pale ale packed full of flavour.

Jumped on the train from Wellingborough to Market Harborough next changing at Kettering.

Beerhouse

A short 8 minute walk from Market Harborough Railway Station brings me to “Beerhouse”. This was the first Micropub in the town, in a converted furniture shop. A really warm welcome from the guys in here (after I made an error with the opening time – thanks so much). A really great space inside with lots of seating, and outdoor seating at the front.

A brilliant selection of beers having 6 cask beers, 10 keg beers and a range of ciders to choose from. A great range of styles and strengths to choose from. I went with a cask beer from Kent based Wantsum Brewery. “Hurricane” was a delicious hazy IPA brewed using Mosaic and Citra hops, giving this beer an awesome citrus punch.
