23/04/22 – Wirksworth and Duffield

A visit today to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway for their Diesel Gala and whilst out there, a couple of Micropubs I managed to drop into.

The Feather Star

Small bar in Wirksworth called the Feather Star. This had been relocated and was previously at 15 St John Street, and is now at the back of the Red Lion Hotel, accessed via an archway.

Interestingly a Feather Star is the name for a Crinoid fossil found locally in the limestone around Wirksworth. The small bar inside serves a range of Cask, Keg and Ciders alongside the sale of records.

Went with the “Let Me Sleep by Twisted Barrel Ale”, based in Coventry. A delicious El Dorado Pale Ale.

The Apollo Bar

Back down to Wirksworth station next, where on event days they have a bar based on an old railway carriage. This served 3 beers on hand pull from Drone Valley Brewery based in Dronfield (which I visited a few weeks back). Went for Derbyshire Blonde, really enjoyed this.

The Town Street Tap

Back on the train to Duffield now and a quick walk to The Town Street Tap. A great little micropub run by Tollgate Brewery.

Great selection of cask ales (3 of their own alongside a guest) along with keg and cider. Went with California Steam, a 4.2% West Coast Pale Ale. Great to see staff coming around checking everything was ok with your drinks aswell!
