03/06/22 – Digbeth and Stirchley

A couple of bars in Birmingham City Centre before walking down to the Digbeth area of Birmingham.

Tilt

A craft beer micro bar serving 18 keg beers, aswell as a large range of cans and hot drinks/speciality teas.

The unusual thing with Tilt is that is has a host of pinball machines you can play with whilst enjoying a drink. Not something you see very often

The Wellington

Always worth a drop into The Wellington on Bennetts Hill. A great pub set over 2 floors (the upstairs has a smaller bar) and a rooftop beef garden.

A massive choice of 16 real ales on the bottom floor so took me a while to decide what I wanted. Ended up going with a beer from Froth Blowers Brewing Co “Piffle Snonker”

Dig Brew Co

A walk down to the Digbeth area of Birmingham next, the first place I am visiting is “Dig Brew Co”, a taproom with the brewery located in the same building. The brewery has been around since the back end of 2017.

Good choice of keg beers, with a further choice in cans. Decided on “Surf”, a refreshing 5% West Coast Pale.

Halton Turner

A five minute walk, still staying in the Digbeth area, around to Halton Turner brewing co. A relatively new tap room which is located under the railway arches.

A great selection of beers, 9 of their own (with 2 of them being cask) alongside 5 Guests. First beer I spotted was the Mangoo Milkshake, a really good choice, very fruity, light and refreshing.

Roberto”s Bar and Tasting Club

Situated in the Custard Factory area of Digbeth, this area features lots of small independent shops and cafes.

This bar specialises on Belgian Beers and the fridges inside are full of them. They serve 7 beers from leg aswell.

Kilder

A great craft beer pub, situated not far from Moor Street station, underneath the railway arches, hidden down a side street.

A great selection of 15 beers to choose from here with varying styles, so should be something to suit everyone. The Lemon Drizzle Donut Sour from New Bristol Brewery stood out, a refreshing and tart sour beer.

Original Patty Men

Situated next door is Original Patty Men. A great place to grab one of their amazing burgers and of course a beer.

They also serve a range of Siren Craft beers (both keg and cans). Went with the Pompelmocello Radler, a grapefruit sour shandy.

Attic Brew Co

Headed up on the train to Bournville for the Stirchley area. Just outside the train station is Attic Brew Co. The brewery was founded in 2018 and has grown ever since, the bar and large outside areas were really busy.

9 beers available here ranging in styles. An American IPA for me this time with one of their own – “Intuition”.

Wildcat

Onto the high street and up to the Wildcat. This is the new Wildcat, whereas the previous one further up the road was smaller. This is larger inside.

8 keg beers and 4 real ales were available here. Spotted the new Vault City – Cloudy Lemonade Sour on, easy choice for me and amazing as always from Vault City.

Cork & Cage

A couple of doors down from Wilcat is Cork & Cage. A small one roomed narrow bar.

They specialise in Belgian Lambics with 5 out of 12 keg lines serving them. Went with a White Currant Lambic, not a flavour ive had before but really enjoyed it.

Birmingham Brewing Co

Birmingham Brewing Co is situated on an industrial estate next to the canal. The entrance is through a side door on the canal towpath.

Choice of 9 leg beers, 4 cask beers and a range of Hogans Cider. The “Fruit Salad Brummie” stood out. A very tart and sour Pineapple and Raspberry Sour.

Stirchley Wines & Spirits

Worth a drop in here if you are in the area. Has a massive range of cans and bottles from breweries both local and further afield, aswell as doing gtowler fills.

Glasshouse Beer Co

Situated on Waterside Business Park (and a nice walk around the perimeter of the park to get to it). Both the taproom and brewery are in the same unit.

Again a great range of their own beers on, 11 in total including IPAs, Table Beers, Session Pales and Lager. “Julie” was my choice, a refreshing and sweet raspberry pale.

Red Beer’d

A nice steady walk back up the main road after visiting Glasshouse Brewery. Red Beer’d is located in Cotteridge.

2 cask beers on here from Halton Turner and Fownes (both local breweries), and a selection of keg beers. Great friendly atmosphere in here.

The Old Dispensary

Last call of the day to “The Old Dispensary” based in Langley. This unit was previously a Pharmacy, in fact theres still a prescription sign outside at the back.

Choice of 4 cask ales here from Hobsons, Wye Valley and Bradfield. Went with Hobsons The Manor. This beer was brewed to celebrate the Severn Valley Railway’s Manor Class steam locomotives.
