A ride out from Blackpool to Freckleton to visit a Micropub “The Vestry Taproom”. The village of Freckleton is near to BAE Warton Airfield and was victim to an air disaster in 1944.

The Vestry Taproom

On the main street in the village is “The Vestry Taproom” (Edit: Renamed and changed ownership in November 2022 to “Tap N Drum”. A small bar with lots of character, with relaxing indoor seating and great outdoor seating, which was lovely in the sun.

A selection of two real ales were available on the bar with a third and fourth coming on during my visit. Started off with “Cunning Stunt” from Fuzzy Duck Brewery in nearby Poulton-le-Flyde, followed by “Summit” from Mobberley Brewhouse. There was also a selection of craft keg lines at the back of the bar which had a selection of pales, darks and lagers.

Freckleton Air Disaster

When walking around the village, noticed a sign showing a Site of Historic Interest for a Freckleton Air Disaster Memorial. Headed down and found out that on 23 August 1944, a United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Consolidated B-24 Liberator crashed during a test flight into the centre of the village of Freckleton, Lancashire, England, killing all three crewmen aboard the aircraft and 58 individuals on the ground, including 38 children aged four to six (Quote – Wikipedia).
