BUY ME A PINT

A Saturday afternoon visit to a local West Yorkshire brewery “Quirky Ales” based in Garforth, to try a few of the beers that they brew on site.

Quirky Ales

A short 5 minute walk from Garforth Railway Station brings me to “Quirky Ales”. The Brewery and attached tap room is located on a small industrial estate on Ash lane. The brewery first started brewing in Spring 2015 in another unit and moved to their current home “Unit 3” in early 2017.

The tap room is attached to the brewery and is a well designed small bar which was lovely and warm with the wood burning stove upon entering. A very warm welcome from “Tracey” when I got in, and was very knowledgeable with the beers being served, a credit to the brewery.

During my visit it showed how popular the bar was, ranging from the younger to older generation, dog friendly and child friendly (until a particular time), so is somewhere you can visit with the family. A great selection of beers on the bar – five real ales all brewed on site and ranging in styles, along with 3 keg choices (Cider, Lager and Craft Ale).

Started with the “Hip Hop”, advertised as one of their Flagship Beers and packed full of hops using 4 in this beer (Dana, Equinox, Mosaic and Simcoe) along with Munch Malt. A really good beer to start with.

Followed this with one of their beer flights. Choosing a trio of beers – starting with “1 Hop Wonder”, this version with Chinook Hops, followed by “Barbarossa” a fantastic Rum Infused Mild Ale, a style you dont see around as much. Finally finished with “This is Red 5, Im Going in”, a quote from Star Wars. A full bodied Red Ale. (Right to Left in the photo below)

If you get chance to visit make sure you check out the wide range of bottles in the fridges aswell, all brewed on site and take a few away with you. Opening times are currently Thursday 5pm-9pm, Friday 2pm-10pm, Saturday 2pm-10pm and Sunday 1pm-8pm.
