BUY ME A PINT

A day out around Leeds visiting some of the many breweries that have tap rooms open on a weekend. Starting off with North Brewing Co at their Springwell Brewery Site, moving onto Meanwood Brewery, Ridgeside Brewery and Tartarus Beers, before moving further out to Horsforth Brewery Tap in Horsforth and Amity Brewery near New Pudsey.

North Brewing Co – Springwell

First call of the day was to “North Brewing Co” at their new Brewery site at Springwell. Last time I visited North Brewing Co they were brewing at Taverners Walk Estate, where they started brewing in 2015. This is now home to Tartarus Beers. North Brewing Co moved to Springwell in 2021.

A great setup with the tap room situated directly next to the brewery equipment and some great views over the increased brewing capacity that North Brewing Co now have at their new premises.

A huge bar at the back of the room featuring 18 keg lines, mostly from North Brewing Co along with a few guest beers. I started off with a Sour IPA in collaboration with Funky Fluid in Warsaw, Poland, followed by another collaboration this time with Docks Beers in Grimsby, a tasty table beer.

Terminus Tap – Meanwood Brewery

A short journey on the 52 bus up to Meanwood, and into “Terminus Tap”, the home of Meanwood Brewery. The brewery was setup in 2017 by the Phillips brothers, with the Terminus Tap following in 2018.

A great selection to choose from on the bar here, 15 keg beers and ciders alongside 4 cask beers. Tried a few here starting off with “Cosmovision”, a sour beer from local Piglove Brewery. Followed by “Herald” from Meanwood Brewery and finishing with a can from Vault City, a delicious “Coconut Cherry Cabana”, the name says it all.

Also got shown around the brewery setup next door to the bar, Really nice to be shown around!

Ridgeside Brewery Tap

Time to head back down towards Leeds on the bus, this time heading to Ridgeside Brewery Tap, located in Penraevon Industrial Estate. Ridgeside first started brewing in 2010, and the brewery tap is located in another unit adjacent to their brewery itself.

A small bar on entering the tap, serving one cask beer and three keg beers. They also have a fridge full of cans to choose from. I started off with the “Objects in Space” on cask, followed by a can of “Field & Orchard”, a mouthwatering Gooseberry, Pear, Apple and Vanilla Sour.

If they have them available when you visit, try the Focaccia from nearby Leeds Bread Coop. They are amazing warm and worth every penny.

Tartarus Tap Room

Using the original site of North Brewing Co on Taverners Walk Estate, Tartarus beers started out in 2020. Classed as a Nano Brewery, the name of the brewery and all of their beers are named after myths, legends and folklore.

A great selection here of 11 beers on keg, starting with some low ABVs and working up to some high ones. As said above all the beer names are related to mythology. I had the “Ratatoskr”, a delicious fruity pale ale.

Horsforth Brewery Tap

Over to the other side of Leeds now to Horsforth, and home of Horsforth Brewery. The entrance to the tap room is on the high street, down a set of stairs. The brewery itself started up in the Summer of 2017.

A great choice again in here with 10 keg beer lines and 2 cask beers. I started with “Horsforth Pale”, a great light tasting american pale ale, followed by “Cosmo”, a Cosmopolitan Sour from local Bini Brew Co in Ilkley. Street food available aswell from Birria Bandits who are worth checking out if you see them advertised anywhere, for some amazing Mexican Street Food.

The Hop Shack

A drop into a small bar ive visited several times in the past, and just a few doors down from Horsforth Brewery Tap.

A great selection of bottles and cans aswell as nine keg beer lines, mostly featuring local beers. I went with “Virtuous” from Leeds based Kirkstall Brewery. A refreshing session pale ale.

Amity Brew Co

Last call of the day to “Amity Brew Co”, based in Farsley at Sunny Bank Mills. This brewpub first opened its doors in December 2020.

A fantastic selection of 10 keg lines and one cask line, all from Amity Brew Co ranging in styles and strengths, alongside a great can selection. I went with “Waterpistol”, a delicious juicy hazy IPA.
