Starting at Faversham well know for its historic churches, whilst here I visited “Furlongs Ale House” and “Creekers Tap”. A short train journey to Sittingbourne, famous for its brickworks and paper mill. 3 Micropubs visited here, “Yellow Stocks”, “Donnas Ale House” and “The Paper Mill”. Finally a train out towards Sheerness getting off at Queenborough, which has the only true concentric castle built in England. Visited “The Admirals Arm” here.

Furlongs Ale House

My first call in Faversham is to “Furlongs Ale House”. This opened in December 2014. After some research before opening a barbers shop was discovered nearby which had “Furlong” in its name” a lovely one roomed Micropub with ample seating spread around with a bar in the back corner. A lovely backyard area to the pub undercover and adds lots of extra seating. A really warm welcome from Martin here today.

A great line up of 4 cask beers, 5 keg and key keg beers as well as a great range of ciders to choose from. I went with a beer from Gravesend based Iron Pier Brewery, “Joined at the Hop”. A delicious double hopped pale ale using Bullion and El Dorado hops, making a tasty pale ale.

The Creekers Tap

A short walk in the direction of the Railway Station brings me to “The Creekers Tap”. This was first opened in 2016 by Whitstable Brewery and named the Corner Tap, having being converted from a former double glazing shop. During the Covid Lockdown in September 2020 it changed its name to “The Creekers Tap”. A great modern layout, and split into two rooms. A warm welcome from Jack behind the bar, and Whitstable Brewery Brewer Adam at the bar.

A great line up of 13 keg beers alongside 2 cask beers and a few fridges packed full of cans and bottles. I went with “E=(JA)MC2” from London based Gravity Well Brewing Co in collaboration with London based Howling Hops. A delicious tart fruity sour.

The Yellow Stocks

A quick jump on the train and to Sittingbourne next. A short walk down the high street brings me to my first call, “The Yellow Stocks”. This Micropub opened in September 2018 and is named after a type of brick which was made in Sittingbourne, a throwback to the towns history. It was formerly a flower shop before. A great warm welcome from husband and wife team Paul and Sara along with a number of regulars. A lovely outside seating area at the rear of the pub as well.

A choice of 4 cask beers on the bar today, along with a range of ciders to choose from. I went with “Gower Wolf” from Surrey based Titsey Brewing Co. A delicious tasty traditional English Bitter, made with hops grown local to the brewery.

Donna’s Ale House

A walk down the other end of the high street brings me to my second call which is to “Donna’s Ale House”. This Micropub first opened in 2017, with seating inside at high tables with stools and benches, alongside a seating area outside at the front of the pub. A nice warm welcome from James and Donna.

4 cask beers on the bar here all from different breweries to choose from. I went with “Amber Ale” from New Romney based Romney Marsh Brewery. A refreshing and flavourful amber beer using 3 different hops.

The Paper Mill

My third call in Sittingbourne is slightly out of the centre (around a 10 minute walk from the Railway Station) to “The Paper Mill”, a lovely corner Micropub. This opened in 2013 having formerly being a building contractors, and before that several different retail units. The name being related to the towns Paper Mill industry. A really warm welcome in here from Marianne, was great chatting to you as well at Chris from The Admirals Arms. A fantastic one roomed Micropub with bench seating around the outside, allowing everyone to join in the conversation.

A choice today of 3 cask beers, alongside 5 key keg beers to choose from, as well at ciders. I went with “Goacher’s Gremlins” from Maidstone based Goacher’s Ales. A delicious blend of a light and a dark ale, a really great beer packed full of flavour.

The Admiral’s Arm

Saturday took me out to Queenborough, a station on the Sheerness Railway line branch from Sittingbourne. A short walk from the Railway Station brings me to “The Admiral’s Arm”. A fantastic lifeboat and nautical themed Micropub which opened in October 2016, named after Admiral Nelson’s Arm that was lost in the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The premises was formerly a Pack and Post business. A lovely warm welcome in here from Chris and Rachel, as well as Marianne and Simon from The Paper Mill who had come over (photo below).

4 Cask beers on the bar to choose from, alongside a wide range of keg beers, ciders and cans/bottles to choose from. I started with “Shine On” from Newark based Milestone Brewery. A refreshing citrus ale made with 3 hops. I went onto “Cockleboats” from Southend-on-Sea based George’s Brewery. A delicious English Bitter.
