BUY ME A PINT
Today, I find myself in Mold, a town renowned for its bustling street markets that occur biweekly, as well as its well-frequented Farmers Market. This location has served as a market hub since the 12th century, following the construction of a castle by the Normans. I explored two micropubs during my visit, beginning with the “Mold Alehouse” and subsequently proceeding to “The Beer Lab.”

Mold Alehouse
The journey on the T8 from Chester to Mold is relatively brief, leading me to my initial destination, Mold Alehouse. This establishment is situated in a Grade II listed building directly across from the town hall. Having opened its doors in 2015, it was honoured with the title of Best CAMRA Pub in Wales in 2022. This afternoon, I received a wonderfully warm welcome from Gareth

I was pleased to find an excellent selection of cask and keg beers, featuring options from both local breweries and those from more distant regions. I began my with “Crux,” a remarkable hazy session IPA produced by Thornbridge Brewery, located in Derbyshire. This beer, aptly named after the most difficult segment of a climb, is characterized by its vibrant fruitiness and hop-forward profile. Following that, I sampled “Pale Sail Ale” from Jolly Sailor Brewery, based in Selby. This beer offers a delightful combination of hoppy and citrus notes.

The Beer Lab
My subsequent visit in Mold is to The Beer Lab, which is owned by the same proprietors as its sister establishment located on the Wirral. The venue features a spacious and relaxed open-plan seating arrangement within a single large room, as well as covered seating available at the front. Today, I received a wonderfully warm welcome from Tracey.

The selection of cask and keg beers is impressive, with several options sourced from local breweries. The selection includes six kegs, three casks, and an impressive variety of ciders. I opted for the “Sunrise” from Hafod Brewery, which is based in Mold. This delightful single-hopped pale ale is exceptionally smooth and enjoyable.
