Farm Yard Beer Bus Tour: A Journey to Craft Brewing

Here I share my experience on the “Farm Yard Beer Bus,” travelling to Farm Yard Brew Co, a craft brewery in Cockerham, Lancashire. Founded in 2016 by Steven Holmes, the brewery evolved from traditional farming into brewing, rebranding in 2021. It focuses on quality and sustainability with eco-friendly practices. The on-site taproom features a rustic design and serves food from the vendor ‘Marrow,’ which offers locally sourced dishes. A variety of beverages are available, including cask ales and craft beers.

Farm Yard Brew Co

This evening I headed out on the “Farm Yard Beer Bus” to Farm Yard Brew Co which was organised by The Fylde Tramway Society and the bus provided by Fylde Transport Trust. Starting off from Starr Gate and picking up at North Pier and Gynn Roundabout. The bus “Ribble 366” was a Bristol RE model with Eastern Coach Works B47F bodywork and was new in 1972 and registered as OCK366K.

Farm Yard Brew Co is a craft brewery based in Cockerham, Lancashire, founded in 2016 by Steven Holmes on his family’s sixth-generation farm. Born from the need to diversify away from traditional farming, the brewery launched in 2017 and quickly grew, rebranding in 2021 to reflect its evolving identity. It produces a wide range of beers—from IPAs to stouts—with a strong focus on quality and sustainability. Eco-friendly practices include reusing spent grain and using renewable energy. The brewery also features an on-site taproom, offering a rustic, welcoming space to enjoy their beers fresh from the source.

The interior features a spacious, open-plan design with ample seating, and outdoor seating that provides views of the surrounding countryside. You can enjoy the sight of brewing equipment, emphasising the venue’s authentic atmosphere.

The taproom hosts ‘Marrow’, a resident food vendor specializing in wood-fired steaks, burgers, grilled vegetarian options, fresh breads, and more. Their menu focuses on bold, flavour-packed dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients, including grass-fed beef and house-made sauces.

Drinks wise a choice of 3 cask ales, a wide variety of 10 keg beers, a cider and lots of can choices in the fridge. I sampled a number of beers including. “Many Hands Make Light Work”, a delicious New England IPA. “Ooh Aah Lancashire”, a Lancashire Tea infused Pale Ale. “Specialist in the Field”, a Blood Orange Farmhouse Ale and lastly “Stay Crumble”, a Plum and Apricot sour beer.

A huge thank-you to Fylde Tramway Society and Fylde Transport Trust for making this trip happen, and to Charlie and Lee for operating the bus!
