Greggs, But Make It a Pub
The Golden Flake Tavern is Greggs’ first proper pub inside Fenwick Newcastle, blending a cosy British pub vibe with playful twists on Greggs favourites. The warm, wood-toned interior sets the scene for dishes like sausage-roll bites, bake-inspired hotpots and a quirky Sunday carvery. With exclusive beers and cocktails based on Greggs classics, it’s a relaxed, fun and surprisingly charming place to grab a bite and a drink.
The Golden Flake Tavern
The Golden Flake Tavern is Greggs’ first proper pub, set up as a long-term pop-up inside Fenwick in Newcastle. It follows a few of their earlier team-ups — everything from a 1920s-style champagne bar to a fancy pasty restaurant — all giving classic Greggs bits a fun twist. This pub keeps that playful vibe going, mixing the feel of a traditional British boozer with Greggs’ well-loved comfort food.
Inside, it’s got that cosy, old-school pub atmosphere: lots of dark wood, leather booths, frosted glass and little nods to Greggs’ Newcastle roots. The menu turns Greggs favourites into pub dishes — things like sausage-roll bites, paprika wedges, mac & cheese, a steak-bake shepherd’s pie and a chicken-bake hotpot.
On Sundays, the carvery revolves around a Steak Bake or a Festive Bake, served with roasties, Yorkshire puds, cauliflower cheese, carrots, Brussels, cabbage and gravy. You can add a pud too, with a choice of Pink Jammie Trifle or Yum Yum Bread & Butter Pudding, served warm with ice cream or custard. There are also sharing boards, themed cocktails and specially brewed beers.
The drinks keep things fun. Greggs has teamed up with Full Circle Brew Co to create two exclusive beers: the “Pink Jammie” IPA — a jam-doughnut-inspired brew — and the “Gosforth 1939 Stottie” Lager, a crisp nod to the brand’s North East heritage. You’ll also find cocktails based on Greggs classics, from jam-doughnut fizz to a spiced caramel doughnut old-fashioned, plus a solid range of wines, spirits and alcohol-free options to round out the pub offering.
Got seated next to a Corey who works for Greggs along with his Dad, from down South and was great chatting to them both.
