Lost Cause Brewing Co – Wakefield Taproom
I visited Lost Cause Brewing Co’s new Wakefield taproom opening and it felt like a significant step forward for a brewery that’s grown quickly over the past year. What began as an idea in Whitwood became reality in 2024, with a focus on modern, flavour-led beers. The new space, fully integrated with the brewery, brings a lively atmosphere with tanks and kegs all around. The beer range is varied and confident, showing real progress. Chatting with the founders made it clear how much effort has gone in. It feels busy, welcoming, and marks an exciting new chapter for Lost Cause Brewing Co.
I managed a visit for the Wakefield taproom opening from Lost Cause Brewing Co — and it feels like a big moment for a brewery that’s been building real momentum over the past year.
Lost Cause started the way a lot of good things do — as an idea that just wouldn’t go away. Originally set up in Whitwood near Castleford, the brewery came to life in 2024 after founders Colin Stronge and Vik Stronge decided to stop talking about it and get it up and running. From the outset, the aim has been modern, flavour-led beers that are enjoyable to drink, well made, and consistently interesting.
This new Wakefield space takes things up another level. Unlike the earlier taproom events, this isn’t just a place to pour beer — it’s fully integrated with the brewery itself. You’re sat right alongside the tanks, with stacks of freshly filled kegs and the brewing kit all in view, which adds a real sense of energy and authenticity to the whole experience.
The space makes the most of that setting. Long communal tables, a busy floor, and the hum of a working brewery around you give it a proper sense of occasion, while still feeling relaxed and welcoming. Outside, there’s additional seating and covered space, making it easy to see this becoming a regular spot regardless of the weather.
Behind the bar, things have stepped up as well. A full run of taps and a bold, hand-written board showed off a wide and confident range on opening night — from well-kept cask pours like Cordy and Lorra through to more adventurous beers, including a rhubarb pale, a mojito-inspired IPA, a clean Munich-style Helles, and bigger, punchier releases like Night of the Big Wind DIPA and Absolute Casserole imperial stout. It’s a lineup that really highlights how far they’ve come in a short space of time.
It was also great to spend some time chatting with Colin and Vik on the night — you can tell how much work has gone into getting this place up and running. Wishing them all the best with the new venue. It was brilliant as well to bump into a few familiar faces, friends and followers, which only added to the atmosphere.
What really stands out is how naturally it all comes together. It feels busy in the best way — tables full, people enjoying a few pints, and a steady buzz that builds without ever feeling forced.
The move into Wakefield, alongside the brewing setup, gives Lost Cause the space and presence to keep pushing forward. It’s still the same brewery at heart — just bigger, sharper, and full of confidence.
