Backstage opened in October 2023, taking over what used to be a cycle shop on a corner and turning it into something completely different. From the moment you see it, the rock and roll theme is clear, and it’s done in a way that feels fun rather than over the top. It’s quickly found its place in the town, especially for an evening drink. Live music is a big part of what they do, with regular gigs from local artists, which gives people a good reason to keep coming back.
Inside, it feels relaxed and full of character. There are lots of little details that tie into the music theme, including light fittings made from drums, which are a nice touch without feeling gimmicky. The lighting is kept fairly low, which makes it feel cosy, especially when there’s music on. There’s a mix of seating and space to stand, so you can either settle in with a drink or move about a bit. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a pint, listen to some live music, and feel comfortable staying a while.
