Woodhouse

Back to the Sheffield to Retford Rail Ale Trail Homepage

Woodhouse is a suburb located in the southeastern area of Sheffield, covering the district of Woodhouse and a large portion of Handsworth. Initially, it started as a farming village but evolved into a mining community during the industrial revolution. Notable historical landmarks include the 17th-century Cross Daggers pub and the remains of old cottages.

The Oxbow

A short 8 minutes walk from Woodhouse Station to The Oxbow located at 103 Furnace Ln, S13 9XD – Google Maps

Just a quick stroll from the station leads you to “The Oxbow.” This charming micropub opened its doors in January 2020, having transformed from shop units in a suburban part of Sheffield. It’s a lively spot featuring a fantastic covered outdoor seating area at the front, perfect for enjoying drinks outside while staying sheltered from the weather, plus some open-air seating as well. Inside, the décor is delightful, creating a wonderfully cosy atmosphere. On a regular basis they have various food vans come and pop up. These are regularly advertised on Facebook and Instagram, including Fiery Dough pizza, J’s Chicken and Argy Bhaji.
