14/09/24 – Chesterfield Great Historic Pub Tour

Today, I find myself returning to Chesterfield to participate in the Chesterfield Great Historic Pub Tour organised by Shaun. Renowned as both “The Heart of Industrial England” and “The Gateway to the Peak District”, Chesterfield originated as a Roman fort at the fringes of the Roman Empire, benefiting from excellent transport connections that facilitated its development into a thriving market town during the Middle Ages. The tour will guide me through several pubs, including one that is currently closed, each rich in history and narratives. It promises to be an exceptional experience that I wholeheartedly recommend if the opportunity arises.

17/07/24 – Weston-Super-Mare and Nailsea

Today, I began my day with a visit to Weston-Super-Mare, a coastal resort that dates back to the Victorian era and boasts the second-highest tidal range globally. I began my journey at the Black Cat Micropub, then proceeded to Fat Head Brewery & Taproom, Brit Bar, and Fork N’ Ale. After a brief train ride to Nailsea & Bacwell, I took a leisurely stroll into Nailsea, a town rich in history that was once renowned for the Nailsea Glassworks established in 1788, supported by the nearby coal mines. This glassworks was considered a major player in the UK’s glass industry. During my visit, I stopped by Nailsea Micropub.

18/04/24 – Broadstairs

Today takes me to Broadstairs, known as the “Jewel in Thanet’s crown”. It is most famous for being one of Charles Dickens’ favourite places to escape to. Started here at “The Magnet” Micropub and heading up to “Sonbar”. A walk towards the Railway Station next brings me to “Mind the Gap” and “The Royston”, and finishing off in St Peter’s at “The Four Candles”.
