Thomas Tallis Alehouse opened in March 2016 in a 15th-century half-timbered building that forms part of the historic Hospital of St John. The building has previously been used as both a restaurant and a shop before becoming the alehouse.
Inside, the old building gives the pub plenty of character. Two front rooms are separated by a low doorway, one with a stove, while a smaller snug sits to the rear with softer seating. The low beams and uneven historic layout make each part feel slightly different.
Beer: 3 changing cask ales, usually including Kent breweries, plus locally produced cider and a wider KeyKeg, bottled and canned range.
Opening: Mon closed; Tue–Thu 17:00–23:00; Fri 14:00–23:00; Sat 12:00–23:00; Sun 14:00–18:00.

The pub is on Northgate, around 750 metres from Canterbury West station and close to several Stagecoach routes into the city centre.
