The Montefiore Arms in Ramsgate—known locally as “The Monty”—is a classic old corner pub with deep roots in the town. It’s named after Sir Moses Montefiore, a 19th-century philanthropist who lived nearby and helped shape Ramsgate’s East Cliff. The pub’s been serving locals for well over a hundred years, keeping things simple and community-focused. In 2025, it was taken over by Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds’), who’ve kept its no-nonsense charm and solid beer at the heart of things. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t change much—and that’s exactly why people love it.
Inside has a timeless, no-frills feel inside—narrow, cosy, and full of character. A long mahogany bar runs the length of the carpeted main room, with vintage ‘70s tables and wood-panelled walls adding to the pub’s old-school charm. There’s a quiet snug behind the bar and a separate games room with bar billiards and paintings by local artist David Ridgway. It’s a proper drinkers’ pub where people come to talk, not stare at screens. Outside, a mural proudly marks the wall—an artistic tribute to the mighty hop, celebrating the pub’s connection to real ale and local brewing.
