NorthDown Brewery started brewing in Margate back in 2018, thanks to Jonny and Katie Spanjar, who launched it after a successful Kickstarter and some solid brewing experience in London. It was the first proper working brewery in the town for over 50 years, which is pretty great. They kicked things off with a small setup and started putting out some great beers—like their Pale Ale Mary, which even won Beer of the Year in Kent. These days, they’re a big part of the local scene, with a taproom, events, and a solid reputation for making proper good craft beer.
NorthDown’s taproom – aka the Saloon – is a laid-back little spot tucked right inside the brewery. It’s got space for about 40–50 people, with a cool industrial vibe and big brewing tanks right next to you. There’s a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, a big shared table, and a chilled courtyard where they often have live music or food pop-ups. You’ll find a great mix of beers on tap (plus cider, wine, and soft drinks), and it’s totally dog- and kid-friendly. Super casual, super local – perfect for a weekend pint and a catch-up.
