BUY ME A PINT

After a busy week in Kent, I was heading back via London so decided to nip out to Watford on the train to visit a couple of pubs I have been meaning to visit for some time. “Two Trees Micropub” and “Mad Squirrel Watford”.

Two Trees Micropub

After getting the train from London Euston to Watford High Street, a short 10 minute walk brings me to my first of 2 calls in Watford, which is to “Two Trees Micropub”. This one roomed Micropub opened in March 2022, also having a small seating area at the front in warmer weather. A great warm welcome in here from Michael and Kat. The name comes from the surnames of the two owners (Ash and Perry), both being types of tree.

A great line up of 3 cask beers alongside 4 keg beers and a selection of ciders. I started with “On The Plush” from East Sussex based Gun Brewery. A very easy drinking and tasty blonde ale. I went onto a sour beer which was brewed by Cambridgeshire based Pastore Brewing in collaboration with Gamma Brewing Co in Denmark. “DDH Onda”, a tart and delicious oat based sour and double dry hopped. Enjoyed this.

Mad Squirrel Tap & Bottle Shop

A walk back towards Watford High Street Railway Station brings me to the “Mad Squirrel Tap & Bottle Shop”. Owned and run by Mad Squirrel Brewery who started brewing first in 2010 based in Hemel Hempstead. They own a few similar tap rooms like this. This is a great place to walk into, some outdoor seating at the front and a large seating area inside. Some delicious looking food coming out from the kitchen as well. A great warm welcome from Tony behind the bar today.

A large choice of keg beers on the bar all brewed by Mad Squirrel Brewery, alongside one cask beer today. A couple of fridges full of cans to drink in or takeaway were also situated next to the bar. I started with “Pin Drop”, a delicious fruity tropical pale ale, packed full of flavour and very refreshing. I went onto their sour beer “Elephant Juice”, a tart grapefruit and hibiscus sour beer, delicious!
