24/09/22 – Blackpool Real Ale Tour (on a Tram)

Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours during 2022 offered a Real Ale Tour on board a Heritage Tram. Enjoy a Blackpool Ale on board a Blackpool Tram, definitely something different.

Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours partnered with Blackpool Brewery “West Coast Rock Brewery” which is based at their 1887 The Brew Room pub on Church Street.

The tour started from North Pier and lasted around 60 minutes, heading up along Blackpools Coastline to Little Bispham before using the turning circle and heading back along to Pleasure Beach, and finally returning to North Pier.

The tram used for the tour was a Balloon “717” which were built between 1933 and 1935 by English Electric based in nearby Preston. On board we were served two bottled ales from West Coast Rock Brewery. The first being “Wonky Donkey”, a delicious Hoppy IPA at 5%.

This was followed by an exclusive beer which isnt available in bars, “Crafty Conductor”, a delicious pale ale at 4%. Both served with a plastic pint glass with a bottle opener. A very enjoyable tour enjoying Blackpools Seafront with a couple of local beers.

There was also an option if we wished to get off at North Pier on the return and heading to “1887 The Brew Room” for a tour around the Brewery (a 5-10 minute walk), so we headed up.

Upon arriving here we had a taster tray of all of West Coast Rock Brewery’s beers. 5 different ones on (Blackpool Blonde, Tangerine Dream, Seasiders Pale Ale, Wonky Donkey and Oyston Stout).

The brewery itself is a very small setup, all housed in a small room and they rotate between brews. Very interesting to see, having visited several large breweries, and seeing how a smaller brewery does things.
