BUY ME A PINT

Following on from an excellent couple of days at Nottingham Robin Hood Beer Festival this time held at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground for the second year running. I headed into Nottingham to check out a few of the local Micropubs and Brewery Taps.

Sir John Borlase Warren

First stop of the day was to “Sir John Borlase Warren” located in the Canning Circus area of Nottingham. This pub reopened in February 2014 and is now in conjunction with local Lincoln Green Brewery.

A fantastic pub, split into four rooms with an excellent upstairs outdoor seating area, perfect for the sunny day.

Always a brilliant selection of real ales here, with varied styles. A large number being from Lincoln Green Brewery alongside some guests. Went with “Hopped Pale Ale”, a delicious 4.3% Green Hopped Pale Ale.

Mist Rolling Inn

A slight walk back down towards Nottingham City Centre brings me to “Mist Rolling Inn”. A Micropub I have visited a few years back, which was then known as “Room with a Brew”. This reopened this year with current owners.

A great small one roomed pub, along with outside seating. Youll notice the pub is very long and narrow as you enter, with the bar located in the left hand corner.

Four choices of real ale available on hand pull along with a few craft selections on keg. My choice was “Stage Hand” from Malton based Bad Seed Brewery. A delicious Mosaic Pale ale packed full of flavour.

Barrel Drop

Heading back into the centre next and tucked down a small alleyway called Hurts Yard is a small Micropub called “Barrel Drop”. This opened in December 2014. A unusual U shaped feel as you enter the pub, with a lower and higher area splitting it up.

The bar is located in the left hand corner with real ale handpulls to the front and keg beers at the back of the bar. A choice of five cask, seven keg beers and several real ciders.

Started off with “Bamboozled” from The Mad Brewer, a Nano Brewery based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, followed by a sour “Blast” from Attic Brew Co based in Birmingham.

Junkyard Pour House

Onto another bar located down a side alley. “Junkyard Pour House”, is a small bar specialising in craft beers from the UK and around the world.

15 taps to choose from here, ranging from pales through to stouts. Went with something different from Little Earth Project based in Suffolk, a “Salt and Pepper Table Beer”. A very refreshing beer, and unusual.

Bunkers Hill

The next pub is situated next to the Nottingham Ice Area. Formerly Barclays Bank, the name of which can still be seen on the stonework outside the pub. The pub itself is packed with ice hockey memorabilia.

Another brilliant selection of real ales and keg beers to choose from, both local and from further afield. Decided to go with a sour beer from Northern Alchemy Brewery based in Newcastle. “Better Life” a tart and mouth watering sour.

Partizan Tavern

A more recent addition to Nottinghams Micropub scene in the form of “Partizan Tavern” which opened in July 2021. The name is taken from  the Serbian football club that the landlord visits regularly. Some Partizan Belgrade FC programmes can be seen hung on the wall.

A great choice of four real ales, five keg ales and five real ciders along with other options. Noticed another sour beer here, this time from Shiny Brewery based in Derbyshire. “Skweezer” was an amazing Pink Lemonade Sour packed full of raspberry and lemon flavours.

Neon Raptor Taproom

Last call of the day before heading back to Nottingham Railway Station for my train home was to “Neon Raptor Taproom”. This is the taproom for the Neon Raptor Brewery.

They usually serve a choice of 12 keg beers, but an event was on which meant they had an extra 8 to choose from. Decided on a few of their new sour beers here (a couple being collaborations).

Lastly they had a Wooden Barrel Aged Coconut Stout which was a collaboration between Neon Raptor Brewery and Vocation Brewery at 11.2%. Only three casks of this were produced. Tried a 1/3 of this. Delicious!.
