BUY ME A PINT

A day out around Brighton and Lewes. Lots of local brewery taps and great independent pubs in this area that are worth visiting. Ive picked a good selection to cover today.

Started off having a ride up the i360 and a walk around the upside down house. Both well worth a visit if you get time.

Hole in the Wall

A small pub just off the seafront “Hole in the Wall”, previously known as Queensbury Arms named after the Marquess of Queensbury. The Hole in the Wall is down as being Brighton’s smallest pub.

A fantastic range to choose from here, ten kegs and four cask beers and a really good range of beer styles. I went with a brewery from a tap takeover that was on the previous evening “Two Flints”. A new brewery recently opened in Windsor. The “Santiago” a 3.8% abv pale ale was really tasty and refreshing.

North Laine Brewhouse

A 20 minute walk downhill from the Hole in the Wall to “North Laine Brewhouse”. Brewery is located behind the bar on a raised level when you walk in.

A good selection of keg beers available here alongside lagers and ciders. Decided to go with “Fader” a juicy American IPA. A great beer!

Unbarred Brewery

Another 15 minute walk to a brewery tap I first visited a few years ago and have had several of their beers since. A corner tap room which houses the brewery alongside the bar.

A great selection of keg beers available here in a range of styles and strengths, alongside a cask beer. I started with their collaboration with Brew York “Honeyberry Pie”, a 6.7% abv pastry sour. I followed with “Amazonian Zing”, a refreshing lemon, ginger and tea sour.

Some great views of the brewery aswell whilst you are sat drinking.

BRZN Arms

Another walk around 10-15 minutes up towards London Road viaduct brought me to “BRZN Arms”. A small bar run by the BRZN Brewery. A great inside area and a huge outside area ready for spring and summer. A nice warm welcome here from Sheldon.

A choice of five keg beers on the bar today, four being from BRZN Brewery alongside a guest. I started with “No Reservations”, a tasty and refreshing table beer, followed by “They’ve Overspent on plants by 10 grand, and ill say nothing”, another great tasting table beer.

Lost + Found Brewery

A bit of a hike and climb up to the top of a hill to Fiveways to go to “Lost + Found Brewery”. Brewed to their recipe’s at different brew

Six keg beers on here with two being from Lost+Found alongside four guest beers. I went with the “Session IPA”, found it to be a very refreshing and tasty pale ale.

Vine Street Tap + Bottle

A taxi ride back down into town after walking uphill all morning. Vine Street Tap. A small tap room serving a range of keg beers alongside a great can and bottle selection.

A choice of fige keg beers on the bar today. I went with “Fidget” from Baron Brewery based in Canterbury. A delicious hoppy pale ale.

Bison Beer

Not far to the next bar, literally around the corner to “Bison Beer”. A bar which opened in the summer of 2018. Visited here once when I previously came to Brighton.

A large selection of keg beers to choose from here including several from their own brewery. I went with “See Side APA”, a juicy and fruity American Pale Ale.

The Evening Star

A pub visited several times next, a few minutes walk from Brighton Railway Station to “The Evening Star”. A pub which was well known for the Dark Star Brewery and its legendary beers. The beers are still being brewed but at Meantime Brewery in Greenwich by Asahi.

As always a big range of cask, keg and ciders here. 12 keg beers and 7 cask beers to choose from. Went with London based Howling Hops and their “Plot Twist”, an easy drinking Pale Ale.

John Harvey Tavern

A short train journey to Lewes with a few brewery taps to visit. The “John Harvey Tavern” is in the centre of Lewes. It is the taproom of Harveys Brewery which is situated just over the main road from this pub.

A selection of five cask beers here all from their own brewery.. I decided to go with “John Harvery IPA”, a easy drinking session pale ale brewed metres from where I was drinking it.

Abyss Brewery Tap

Slightly out of the town centre into an industrial estate to visit “Abyss Brewery Tap”. A brewery which started brewing in the cellar of the nearby “Pelham Arms” before moving to bigger premises.

A great outdoor and indoor space here with part of the outdoor space covered. A great choice of beers on the bar with 10 beers to choose from, listed in order of ABV. I went with “Dreams”, a delicious hazy IPA at 5% abv. The brewery tap also has pop up street food vendors aswell outside.

The Snowdrop Inn

Situated half way between Abyss Brewery Tap and Beak Brewery Tap is “The Snowdrop Inn”, with the white cliffs as a backdrop. A lovely country feel pub which offers a tasty looking homemade food menu.

A number of local keg beers on the bar, alongside a choice of two cask beers. I went with “Scaramanga” from Gun Brewery, a light drinking extra pale ale. The metal sculptures on the ceiling are worth checking out aswell.

Beak Brewery Tap

Located in a small industrial estate on the very edge of Lewes is “Beak Brewery Tap”. Really busy bar and looked popular with local runners. Lots of seating outside with heaters and fire pits dotted around. The beautiful white cliffs overlooking.

Lots to choose from again being a number of different styles and abvs. I ended up deciding to go with “Pops”, a really hoppy hazy pale ale at 5.6% abv. A very tasty beer.

A streetfood vendor again here this time “Kabak” serving Middle Eastern Food. The Meze box was delicious. Beef Shawarma along with a number of sides. If you see these guys anywhere go and try something. A taxi back to the station from here (around a 30 minute walk).
