03/08/24 – Buxton and Chapel-en-le-Frith

Today, I spent the day in Buxton, a town situated at an elevation exceeding 1000 feet, making it one of the highest market towns in England. It is renowned for its therapeutic spa waters. During my visit, I explored several pubs, micropubs, and taprooms, including some operated by the local Buxton Brewery. I concluded my day in nearby Chapel-en-le-Frith, often referred to as the “Capital of the Peaks,” where I visited a delightful micropub.

29/06/24 – Chesterfield

A day out in Chesterfield, home to the “Crooked Spire”. The lead tiles used to cover the spire’s timbers (Over 32 tonnes of lead tiles) created such a heavy weight that the timbers simply couldn’t bear the strain, and twisted alarmingly. Visited a number of Micropubs, Brewery Pubs and Independent pubs throughout the day.

01/06/24 – Brampton Beer Mile

A day over in Chesterfield with “House of Ales” – Karl, Cheryl and Matthew taking part in one of the “Chesterfield Great Historic Pub Tour” run by Shaun. This one was The Brampton Mile, starting with the furthest out “The Star” and heading back towards Chesterfield finishing at “The Junction”, visiting 16 pubs on the way, which includes 14 pubs, 1 Brewery and 1 Micropub, a great range of places to visit.

25/05/24 – Three Counties Rail Ale Trail

An attempt today to do a “Three Counties Rail Ale Trail”, covering Cheshire, Derbyshire and Greater Manchester. A return ticket to New Mills (2 stations here) from the Manchester direction was my ticket for the day. Started out at Disley visiting “Malt Disley”, a short train journey to New Mills Newtown and a few minutes walk to “Torrside Brewing”. Headed into New Mills visiting “Torr Vale Tap”, “The Cheese Wheel” and “Beer Shed”. Next was onto Marple visiting “The Samuel Oldknow”, “Bevi”, “Dig Inn” and “Traders”. Romiley next to drop into “Hop Haus” and “The Crafty Vendor”, before (for completion) to Bredbury to visit “The Steelworks”.

17/02/24 – Ilkeston, Heanor and Langley Mill

A re-visit to the areas of Ilkeston, Heanor and Langley Mill in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Visited here at the start of November 2023 following near the same route with two extra pub additions. My day started with Ilkeston visiting Burnt Pig, Gladstonian, The Crafty One and Stanton Cask. Headed out next towards Heanor visiting Marlpool Ale House on the way with The Angry Bee, The Crafty Tap, Redemption Ale House, Hop Wright Inn and the new addition of Dead Man’s Tankard. Onto Loscoe to the Tip Inn and finishing in Langley Mill visiting Railway Tavern, The Bunny Hop and Inn the Middle. 04/11/23 – Ilkeston, Heanor, Ripley and Langley Mill

Another day out with a Northern £10 Newspaper offer ticket. Started at Ilkeston visiting The Burnt Pig, Gladstonian, Craft One and Stanton Cask, before heading up to the Marpool Ale House from Marpool Brewery, up to Heanor for Crafty Tap, Angry Bee, Redemption Ale House and Hop Wright Inn. The bus up again to The Tip Inn at Loscoe and Tom Said and Ripley’s Little Alehouse in Ripley. Final call of the day was to the reopening of The Bunny Hop in Langley Mill.

12/10/23 – Langley Mill, Eastwood, Giltbrook and Kimberley

ollowing on from being at the Nottingham Robin Hood Beer & Cider Festival for a few hours in the morning, I headed out to Langley Mill and worked my way back into Nottingham via Eastwood, Giltbrook and Kimberley, calling at 9 Micropubs en route. All very welcoming and unique in their own way.
