The Conqueror Alehouse in Ramsgate opened in 2010 as Thanet’s first micropub and one of the earliest in the UK. Named after the paddle steamer MV Conqueror, it carries a strong local connection, with photos of the vessel displayed throughout. The alehouse quickly gained a reputation and was shortlisted in CAMRA’s national Pub of the Year competition, making it to the final four. In 2020, it changed ownership but kept its original name and spirit. It remains a proud part of Ramsgate’s community, standing as a symbol of the town’s role in the rise of the micropub movement.

Inside it is small, cosy, and full of character. With space for just a handful of people, it offers an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. There’s no bar counter—just simple wooden tables, stools, and friendly table service. The walls are lined with photos and memorabilia from the paddle steamer MV Conqueror, giving the space a strong sense of local history. Conversations flow easily in the quiet, music-free setting, staying true to traditional micropub values. It feels more like a relaxed front room than a pub, where regulars and newcomers alike can chat, unwind, and enjoy the laid-back, community feel.
