14/08/22 – Peterborough

A drop in for an afternoon in Peterborough on the way home from Norwich. Including visiting a number of micropubs in the area.

The Frothblowers

A bus out from Queensgate Bus Station to Werrington (Number 1) for the first call of the day to The Frothblowers. A micropub situated within a small row of shops and hairdressers.

A huge choice of 13 ales available here, with several served from gravity rather than handpull.

Started off with a Cask Sour from local Bowler’s Brewery “Mangoes into a Bar” (pictured below), followed by “Cherryape” a Cherry Fruit Beer from Nottinghams Blue Monkey Brewery. Chatted to a local couple in here aswell, love being able to walk in and have a good conversation (one of the main ideas of a micropub).

The Wonky Donkey

Bus back into Peterborough next and a walk out towards Fletton for The Wonky Donkey Micropub. Hidden away in a built up housing area.

Four beers to choose from on the bar here. Started with “Cuthberts Fee” from Bakers Dozen Brewing Co in Ketton, followed by “Mosaica” from Mile Tree Brewery in Peterborough.

Also a small outdoor seating area at the back of the pub. Very busy in this micropub this afternoon.

Bumble Inn

Now to head back into the town centre to a Micropub called “Bumble Inn”. This micropub opened in June 2016 and is a one room micfopub. I must add that the air conditioning in here was amazing with the weather outside being so warm.

A choice of 5 Cask Ales available on the bar, some of which were local and some from further afield.

Started with the “Mad Jack” Bitter from Papworth Brewery in Cambridgeshire followed by “Brainstorm” from Salopian Brewery.

Blind Tiger

Onto a new bar that wasn’t here the last time I visited. “Blind Tiger”. A large Craft Beer venue with lots of inside and outside seating.

A great choice of beers here ranging from all different styles. With over 25 different taps to choose from, you’ll find something for you here.

Decided to go with a paddle of three different sour beers. Doodle Dandy from Play Brew Co, Dum JREAM from Evil Twin and This Time Next Year from Twisted Wheel. All enjoyable and refreshing on the warm weather.

The Stoneworks

Onto The Stoneworks bar next located in the centre of town. One I visited last time I came to Peterborough, the bar itself opening in 2016.

As with the last bar, a great choice of beers ranging in styles with 25 taps again to choose from. Went with “Fruit Flute” from Villages Brewery in Deptford.

The Ostrich

Onto a great real ale pub, just off the main town centre. Very lively pub with a live band playing in a beer garden out of the back of the pub. A large U shaped bar with lots to choose from.

Started with “60 Minute Strut” from Bakers Dozen Brewing Co based in Ketton, Rutland followed by “Chaos More Chaos” from Disruption is Brewing in Camberley.

The Brewery Tap

Last call in Peterborough before a short walk back to the train station for the train back to Wakefield. This building was converted from an employment exchange to this pub and opened in 1998. It also houses brew equipment for Oakham Ales.

A great selection of ales here, mostly from Oakham Ales with a guest.

Went with “Whispering Grass” from Papworth Brewery in Cambridgeshire. Great inside to the pub here, lots of room and they are highly recommended for food.
