BUY ME A PINT

A day out along the Sussex Coastline, starting at Hove and working up to Worthing and West Worthing via Portslade and Southwick. Lots of great micropubs along this coastline and all easily accessible by train.

The Watchmakers Arms

First call is to “The Watchmakers Arms” in Hove. A micropub which ive visited several times in the past, and has recently won CAMRA Brighton and South Downs Pub of the Year.

A great selection of cask and keg in varied styles in strengths here (one of their own beers can often be found here aswell). 5 Cask and 2 Keg available today.

I started with “Hip Hop” from Langham Brewery based in Lodsworth, followed by “Merlin Mythical Mild” from Only With Love Brewery based in Uckfield. Nice to see a Mild (Ive not come across one for a while). Great surroundings here with watches and clocks on the walls fitting in with the name. The manager was very welcoming here, as were the local couple from Worthing I got chatting to.

The Foghorn

A quick train journey to the next station along the line (Portslade) to visit “The Foghorn”. You cant miss this with its blue walls showing a seaside scene.

A great selection of cask and keg beers here to choose from. I went with “Foundation Bitter” from East London Brewing Co based in Hackney. A delicious traditional bitter.

Southwick Beer Engine

Another short train journey two stations down, this time to Southwick. A short walk from the station brings me to “Southwick Beer Engine”. A small micropub on the main street.

A choice of 3 cask ales here, one stood out which was a dark mild from Howling Hops Brewery based in Hackney. “Shimmy”. A great style of beer that you dont see around much.

Green Man Ale and Cider House

After a few cancelled and delayed trains from Southwick, I finally got to West Worthing, a short walk away from the “Green Man Ale and Cider House”. A very traditional micropub with all beers served on gravity. Les the owner who Ive spoke to several times was as friendly as ever and is very knowledgeable in local pubs.

Really busy in here, not surprising with the great range of ales and ciders. 5 cask beers on today, I started with “Hedge Hop” from Flack Manor Brewery in Romsey (a beer brewed to commemorate World War 2), followed by “omb” from Downloads Brewery in Small Dole.

The Fox & Finch

A bit of a walk from the Green Man (15 mins or so), up to “The Fox & Finch”. A lovely small micropub and a warm welcome from Jo.

A choice of two cask and five kegs on here, again with a range of styles. I went with the “Bitter” from Iron Pier Brewery in Gravesend. Very traditional bitter so really enjoyed this!

The Georgi Fin

A bit of a distance to the next one so a local cab down to “The Georgi Fin”. This opened in June 2017 and ive managed to visit once before shortly after opening.

Four cask beers on here from various places in the country rather than like the previous ones where a lot are locally sourced. I decided to go with “Leveson Buck” from Titsey Brewing Co based in Warlingham, Surrey. A delicious hoppy session IPA.

Brewhouse and Kitchen – Worthing

A number of these exist around the country and all brew beer in house (as well as offering brewing experience days, one of which I took part in as a leaving present a few years ago).

Four of their own cask beers on the bar here (Pale, Golden, Session and IPA). I went with “Stormtrooper”, their Golden Ale. A dry and refreshing beer.

The Old Bike Store

Last call of the day is to “The Old Bike Store”, a great bike themed craft beer bar in Worthing Town Centre. Again nice to see somewhere pretty busy on a Tuesday evening.

A choice of 8 keg beers (one being a lager), alongside a range of ciders and canned beers. I started out with “Road Trippin’” from Bullhouse Brew Co in Belfast. A refreshing session American IPA. I followed with “West Coast IPA” from The Three Legs Brewing Co based in Brede, East Sussex.

You forgot to say how friendly Les at the greene man is, sometimes the beer is not the only reason you pop into a pub
