BUY ME A PINT

A long weekend staying with friends in Blackpool to see the yearly “Blackpool Air Show” on the seafront. Visited some old favourites pub wise with the addition of a few new pubs. Started with Albert’s Ale Micropub, onto No 10 Alehouse and finished at the Saddle Inn Thursday. Friday dropped into CASK Micropub in Layton. Saturday started with Abingdon Street Market for the Farm Yard Beers Bar, and onto Shickers Micropub. Sunday visited CASK Micropub in Bispham and Cask and Tap in the centre.

Albert’s Ale Micropub

First call is to a great small micropub ive visited several times in the past (and one you may miss if you didnt know it was here). This bar is situated on the ground floor of the Albert Hotel (a short walk from the Winter Gardens).

A choice of 4 cask beers on the bar here alongside several keg and cider options. I went with “Tennyson” from Island Brewery based in Newport on the Isle of Wight. A great traditional bitter.

No. 10 Alehouse and Kitchen

A walk up Whitegate Drive next and to “No. 10 Alehouse and Kitchen”, this was Blackpools first Micropub which opened in July 2018. A great front outdoor seating area, and also serves Thai food.

A choi d of 3 cask beers on the bar today, from Thornbridge, Brew York and Theakstons Brewerys. I went with “Fennec Blonde” from Brew York. A really easy drinking blonde ale using Fuggle and Cascade hops.

Saddle Inn

A short walk brings me to “Saddle Inn”. A pub that forms part of the Blackpool Civic Trust Heritage Trail (blue plaque below), but is the oldest continuously licensed pub in Blackpool, having first being licensed in 1776.

A number of cask ales available in here, including “Bass”, had to be the beer to go for. Bass was well known for being served from a Jug. A really easy drinking classic beer. Loving the tardis door aswell in the pub.

CASK Micropub – Layton

Fridays visit on the way back from Preston. A 10 minute or so walk from Layton Railway Station to the CASK Micropub in Layton. My second visit here. 4 cask ales on, all from good breweries and a couple of keg beers alongside a Helles and a Pilsner.

I went with “Reedlighter” from Woodforde’s Brewery who are based in Norwich. A brilliant light and refreshing hoppy beer. Seating is available both at the front and rear of the pub.

Abingdon Street Market – Farm Yard Brew Co

The first call on Saturday was to the recently renovated “Abington Street Market”, the half thats currently open is a large food hall with multiple food vendors and 2 bars run by Farm Yard Brew Co.

A number of drinks available including Abington Lager, Cider and Dark fruits Cider alongside numerous craft beers. I went with “Chaff”, a tasty Session IPA from Farm Yard Brew Co.

Food offerings included Curries, Burgers, Loaded Fries, Subs, Pizzas and much more. I went with a Cheesy Naan Bread with Lamb Kebab inside and some cheesy loaded fries. The plan is for the other half of the market to open up with independent traders.

Shickers Micropub

Located a short walk from Blackpool South Railway Station is “Shickers Micropub”. A great two roomed Micropub with added outdoor seating. A really popular pub.

A choice of 3 real ales here alongside a number of keg choices. I went with “Geronimo” from Warrington based 4T’s Brewery. A session IPA made with 4 hops, really tasty.

CASK Micropub – Bispham

My first visit to the next Micropub, “CASK Micropub – Bispham”, sister pub of CASK Layton. This opened in November 2022 and is set over 2 levels with outdoor seating towards the front. This was my first call on Sunday morning and it probed to be a popular venue, being a 5 minute walk from the Bispham Tram Stop.

A great selection of beers on the bar in here including 5 cask beers and a number of keg beers and lagers. I started with “Blonde Vixen” from Wily Fox Brewery, before moving onto “Inception” from Beartown Brewery and “Room 16” from Three Fiends Brewhouse. All excellent beers.

Cask & Tap

My final call of the long weekend is to “Cask & Tap”, a short walk from Blackpool North Railway Station. The first opened in September 2020 and always has a good range of both ales and ciders.

Choices today included 4 cask ales, 10 keg beers and a huge cider selection. I started with a sour beer from Vault City “Double Blueberry Vanilla Swirl Doughnut” and went onto “Death by Cherries” from Vocation Brewery.
