A couple of visits while in Blackpool over the New Year weekend for the Fylde Tramway Society’s Christmas Tour. Visited Shickers and Backstage Bar Blackpool on the Friday, and Backstage Bar Cleveleys on Saturday. Shickers I have visited a number of times in the past alongside a large number of independent bars in Blackpool and along the coast (all linked below).

24/09/23 – St Annes and Lytham
22/09/23 – Fylde Coast
10/08/23-13/08/23 – Blackpool, Bispham and Layton
26/09/22 – Fleetwood
25/09/22 – Blackpool and Fleetwood
24/09/22 – Blackpool Real Ale Tour (on a Tram)
23/09/22 – Kirkham, Poulton and Blackpool

Shickers Micropub

Located a minute or so walk from Blackpool South train station is “Shickers Micropub”. A micropub ive visited several times in the past and always had a warm welcome and some great conversation from locals. This time didnt disappoint.

I went with a Lancaster Brewery special “Snowdrop Pale Ale”, a triple hopped light pale. Really easy drinking.

Check out the blog links above for more photos and details.

Backstage Bar – Blackpool

A short walk over the Railway Bridge from Shickers, brings me to the “Backstage Bar”, located within the Waterloo Music Bar. This was formerly a dining room but has now been transformed into a great small bar with its own opening hours. Generally when there is a music event on, or Blackpool FC are playing at home.

Some really quirky and unusual features in here including the Jack Daniels archway by the door and bike wheels on the ceiling.

A choice of three cask beers on the bar here, alongside a range of keg beers and a fridge packed full of bottles and cans. I went with “Belgian Blue” from Yorkshire based Bradfield Brewery. A favourite of mine always available at this time of the year.

Backstage Cleveleys

(While in Cleveleys also check out Shipwreck Brewhouse and The Venue – details in linked blog posts at the top of this page)

A quick call into this new bar which opened in October 2023 in a former cycle shop. A rock and roll themed bar on a corner and very well done out. Some really unusual features again in here as with their other bar including light fittings made out of drums.

A great selection of drinks again with three cask beers and 18+ keg lines with a wide variety of different drinks and styles. A well stocked bottle and can fridge can also be found, packed full of different styles to choose from. I went with “Belgian Blue” from Bradfield Brewery.

Another great report Scott. Much appreciated. I must visit Blackpool again, as I haven’t been there for a few years.
