BUY ME A PINT

A Friday trip out visiting some Micropubs along the Fylde Coast, starting at “Cask” in Bispham, “Shipwreck Brewhouse” and “The Venue” in Cleveleys, “Beer Shed” in Fleetwood, along with 2 visits in Blackpool Centre to “No 13 Bonny Street” and “Cask & Tap”. An evening Ghost Walk and Victorian Séance with Stephen Mercer, an excellent walk if you get chance to book onto it. Finishing in “1887 The Brew Room”, home of West Coast Rock Brewery. All this is done using Blackpool Tramway and a day ticket.

CASK Micropub – Bispham

My second visit to this Micropub, “CASK Micropub – Bispham”, sister pub of CASK Layton. This opened in November 2022 and is set over 2 levels with outdoor seating towards the front. I first visited this in August. A really popular pub with a great community feel, and having just won Blackpool & Flyde CAMRAs Pub of the Season – Summer 2022. This is a 5 minute walk from Bispham tram stop.

A great selection of 4 cask ales, 3 ciders alongside a choice of keg beers and ciders. Started with a Session IPA from Kendal based Gan Yam Brew Co “SIP”, a easy refreshing beer. Went onto “Duitful Supremacy” from Leeds based Wilde Child Brewing Company. a great tasting classic Bitter.

Shipwreck Brewhouse

Jumping back on the tram from Bispham to Cleveleys, and a short minute or so walk down the main street from the tram stop brings me to the “Shipwreck Brewhouse”. A great selection of cask beers (was busy inside so didnt get a bar photo but can be seen on my previous blogs from here).

Went with “Blighty” from Chorley based Ben’s Brewery, A lovely citrusy pale ale, packed full of flavour. Some lovely seating outside, along with smaller rooms to sit in (aswell as the main bar area).

Venue

A short 10 or so minutes walk along the front from Cleveleys brings me to “Venue”. A large entertainment venue which has great views over the sea (a bit choppy today so inside seating). Also serves a wide range of food.

A selection of 2 real ales on the bar here, alongside a real cider (from Kent). I went with “Farmers Light Ale” from South Yorkshire based Bradfield Brewery. A local brewery to me and one ive always enjoyed beers from. A smooth light golden ale.

Beer Shed

A short walk from the Venue to Thornton Gate tram stop and this time up to Fishermans Walk in Fleetwood. The “Beer Shed” I have visited once in the past when it opened in September 2022, so being a year old this week. A really friendly welcome in here and a great community feel. A small seating area has now been added at the front.

A choice of 3 cask ales on the bar, with ciders and keg beers also to choose from. “Wellington” from Chorley based Ben’s Brewery for me here. A sessionable easy drinking New Zealand hopped Pale Ale.

No. 13 Bonny Street

Back on the tram into Blackpool Town Centre, and located behind the main promenade is a small bar called “No. 13 Bonny Street”, formerly known as the Pump and Truncheon, as it used to be over the road from Blackpool’s main police station. It had a major refit inside and out in 2019 before reopening.

A choice of 2 cask ales on the bar, one being from Robinsons Brewery, the other which I went with was “Bitter Number 5” from Lakeland Beer. A easy drinking tasty Traditional Bitter.

Cask & Tap

Onto the Cask & Tap on Topping Street. A short 10 minute walk through town from the last pub. A fantastic selection of beers on here as always and a warm welcome. Ive covered this several times in the past, and a great calling point before catching a train being so close to the train station.

5 Cask Ales, 10 Keg Beers and 10 ciders so lots to choose from. Couple of sour beers on here that took my fancy. First one from North East based Alpha Delta Brewery, “Enceladus”, a tart margarita gose. Followed with “Fort Lauderdale” from Nottingham based Neon Raptor Brewing Co, a mandarin sour pale ale, zesty and citrusy.

A short walk from here onto the front to meet for my “Blackpool Ghost Walk”. Hosted by Stephen Mercer. If you get chance to book onto one of these its thoroughly advisable. The stories and the history at each location on the tour were amazing and informative and had you glued to the spot. This finished with a Victoria Séance at the last pub of the day. Check out SUPERNATURAL EVENTS for details. Trip Advisor has some amazing reviews of it aswell.

1887 The Brew Room

My last call of the evening was to “1887 The Brew Room”, home of Blackpool based “West Coast Rock Brewery”. A great historic pub, formerly the Stanley Arms Hotel and the birthplace of Blackpool FC. A great spacious pub with lots of seating areas, some overlooking the main street. Featured this with the REAL ALE ON A TRAM TOUR last year.

A choice of 6 cask beers (3 of which were from their own brewery), alongside a cider and a number of keg beer options. I went with the “Blackpool Blonde”, a very light blonde beer, very easy drinking.
